JOHOR BARU: The Higher Education Ministry has granted Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) full autonomy, making it the first university in the country to receive the status.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said a team from the ministry has conducted research on the suitability of the university to attain full autonomy and found that they were ready.
He also said that several other universities had been identified by the ministry as well but the names of these universities will only be announced on Jan 26.
Mohamed Khaled was speaking to reporters after presenting endowment scholarships to 100 undergraduates at the UTM campus is Skudai here on Jan 8.
